FOOD AND FOLKLORE FESTIVALS
HISTORY, CULTURE, GASTRONOMY
All of the festivals we present here we know personally.

MORAVIAN SMOKED HAM FESTIVAL 2017, March 4-5
Not only wine or beer can be
sampled. The Moravské uzené (Moravian Smoked
Ham), one of the local treasures, can be sampled too
- we are sure. This is a festival of smaller producers, often family owned, who
prepare this specialty the traditional way. Visitors can
sample for free and appreciate the best one
for free. Besides this, a wide range of different
sausages, salamis, kinds of bacon and other delicacies are available
in a wide range. And folk music, good wines, tasty beers, you can
imagine..... We are sorry, it is nothing for vegetarians.
Note: Because it takes place in winter time,
it cannot be a part of any biking or hiking programme.

ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL 2018, May 18-20
Ivančice was the most important region for "spargel" production - but more than 100 years ago. At tThat time, empress Sissi highly officially appreciated the asparagus from Ivančice as the best in all the Habsburg monarchy. Today this tradition is presented as a three-day food festival. The best chefs present their creations using asparagus to the public, while wine producers combine their best wines with it. We recommend coming on Sunday when there are fewer people than on Saturday.

FIVE-PETALLED ROSE CELEBRATIONS 2018, June 22-24
A traditional cultural event taking place in Český Krumlov. This is a municipal historical event from the renaissance period, an age of the Last Rosenbergs. Visit past times, meet brave knights and pretty noblewomen, enjoy different processions and ceremonies in historic costumes and the art of street jugglers and comedians.

PÁLAVSKÉ VINOBRANÍ, September 7-9, 2018
Pálavské vinobraní means Pálava Wine Harvest Festival. This is one of the biggest traditional events held in Mikulov, where traditional grape processing is blessed by the god of wine Bacchus. People taste fresh "burčák" (slightly fermented fresh grape juice) and South Moravian wines, while Moravian dulcimer music groups and brass bands, as well as traditional folklore ensembles, show their art. ZNOJEMSKÉ HISTORICKÉ VINOBRANÍ 2018, September 14 -16
This historical grape harvest combines both the glorious history of the royal town of Znojmo and its preserved historical backdrop and viticulture tradition. King John of Luxembourg came to Znojmo in 1327 to celebrate his successful negotiations in Wroclaw. The town prepared a splendid program for him, fragments of which, including the traditional handing-over of rights to the hands of councilmen, can be seen by visitors to this day. What more? Naturally fresh half-fermented wine "Burčák", South Moravian wines, music, dances.... https://www.znojemskevinobrani.cz/en/
